Rosie Adams

I found the work of Rosie Adams on the Association of illustrators website. I was attracted to her pieces of illustration mainly because of their interesting compositions and also her interesting use of colour.

The composition of this image particularly grabbed my attention as it clearly shows what is happening through an unconventional view. It would never be possible to see this scene from these angles all at the same time but the dividing line between above and below ground emphasises the fact  that the girl cannot see what is going on underground. The limited colour palette highlights the focal points of the image with a striking yellow and red.

I like the composition of this piece too, again, it shows a view of a scene from an interesting angle. The white negative space is used subtly, presumably as a suggestion of windows (and therefore light) at the top. You would think the spots of colour on the right would make the image too heavy on this side but the blocks of black and lifework on the left seems to balance the image.
