Marcus Oakley has worked int he creative industry since he graduated, firstly as a textile and t-shirt designer before he became an illustrator. He says he has always been an artist because he has continually been making work for himself.
Its not a problem if you make a mistake, you just have another go. Sometimes mistakes turn out for the best and you end up being happy with what you have made anyway.
Marcus talks about creating your own space and surrounding yourself with things that inspire you and things you have made.
Line is important. Consider weight of line. A line can become anything.
I particularly liked this landscape drawing because his line work describes the terrain of the hills in an interesting way. He said he was inspired by the contour lines found on maps and I can see how this has worked. Marcus' practice is a very extreme translation of the real world - he visually describes the world around him in a really interesting and brave way.
