The Illustrated Self - Photoshop

Here are some screen shots of my Photoshop work. I kept the colour very simple, only using one colour for each image and carefully selecting areas to leave white.

I lightened this colour and made the sky white so that the flag at the end could be seen properly. I think the white path makes the idea of a journey clearer.

There was too much blue in this and I didn't like how there was two different tones of blue in the same image. The image on the right is the one I will go with, I also darkened the mark-making on the water to make it look more daunting and scary.

I couldn't decide between dark blue and purple for this image - I felt that either was appropriate. To keep just one tone of the colour, I will make the sky white and change the colour of my face to the same as the cloud to show how it is affecting me.

The firs orange I used was way too bright and I wanted something more subtle. I also changed the hand colour to white so that it looked like it was in the foreground along with the dish.

I had struggles with getting the right green, the first one looked too pale and washed out and I wanted something more earthy but still bright and appealing. I played around with this for a while and arrived at the colour on the right.

My ink drawing didn't go exactly as planned so I tweaked some of the features to how I wanted them to be.

I decided to leave the top pink as well to make the earth in the background stand out more because it wasn't very noticeable previously.

I played around with different pinks and arrived at the one on the right. I thought the one on the left looked too sweet and playful.

I was unsure whether to make the skin tones and clothing white as well but I think it is best to leave just the work in white because it highlights the man comparison between the two sides.

Adding colour to this image went straight to plan because its simple. In hindsight I could have looked at making the screen white to show the light in it, but then green hands would have looked strange.

When I was doing the ink work for this, my dip pen leaked so I needed to patch this up on photoshop. I used the patch tool to copy areas of black and white to recreate what was drawn underneath the smudge.

I played around with which areas to colour in and decided on this combination at the bottom. I think there is enough colour present in this image to balance with the other images.

I was playing around with where to include colour and where I should leave white - the first two examples look too heavy and dark so I needed to pick out more white areas. I think the bottom idea is balanced and not too overpowering, especially since I lowered the opacity of the colour.
