What are my aims?
Something simple that works in black and white and colour.
An identity that says something about how I work just from first impressions.
To use my own name as the centre of the brand identity, I feel this is important as a freelancer as people will be dealing with me directly.
I knew I wanted my main text (my name) to be hand drawn because I thought this would get across the hand crafted nature of my work. I tried out using ink quite loosely with a wet and dry brush but when I moved these into photoshop they didn't look how I had expected them too. The dry brushed capital letters looked quite harsh which was the opposite of what I was trying to achieve.
Instead I wrote my name over and over and decided that this was the best thing to represent me, my own natural handwriting. I enlarged the handwriting on the photocopier and drew it out by hand with much cleaner edges, I then edited this on photoshop. I also simplified it down to just my initials and tried out some compositions that could be used as an account icon or something similar.
I put together some simple brand guidelines. This branding is going to span my web presence as well as my physical promotional material like business cards, cv, etc. The colours I have used are just examples, I have chosen not to have specific colours connected to my identity as I think a monochrome design would much more efficiently work with any given colour. A simple black and white logo will work very well alongside my black and white drawings. If I do decide in the future to add colour to my identity then this will be an easy change for me to make.
