Website Progress

I have been putting off releasing my website for ages because of issues deciding on a domain name to use, and guess what, I still haven't decided! BUT the most important thing is that I now have an online portfolio that I can direct people to if they want to take a look at what I do. I am going to sort out a domain and unify all of my web presence though names and branding but I didn’t want to hold back my website content any longer.

I had originally divided my work by project very similar to on my Bechance page. However, after discussing this with Teresa I realised that it would be better for me to divide my work by style. It would allow people to navigate through my work easier and find what they are looking for style-wise. I have to think about how an art director or commissioner might view my website. Dividing my work by style also fits in with the feedback I received from Ben Cox about dividing my practice as I have different ways of working.

I also need to revisit my homepage as I feel it looks too cluttered and mis-matched. There is a lot of visual information on this page and it doesn’t look organised or clear what I do. I am thinking about creating a new single image, as oppose to a collage, which can include mockups of my work in varying contexts. This will immediately give a visitor to my site an idea of the potential applications and uses for my work. I want it to have a strong impact about what I do but not be too busy or off-putting for someone viewing my work for the first time.

Figuring out my ‘About’ section has been a long process. I had a few tutorials with John which made me think that my bio should be quite personal and say something about me that is unrelated to may practice. I really struggled to think of things to say and felt a but uncomfortable sharing this with people who probably just want to look at my work. After spending a long time re-writing information about me I decided that this wasn't what I wanted to appear on my professional website. I chose to write a brief summary of my work instead and a bit about my inspirations.

My website still needs work so I will be posting about my finalised version soon.
