Completed Website

I have finally completed my website!

My relationship with Wordpress is still a bit rocky but I feel we are slowly starting to understand each other more.

I have mainly been struggling with getting to get my website looking exactly how I want it to look, I have been using the templates provided but these restrict the placement of your images and text. I has particular issues with my homepage using the grid layouts. In the end I formatted my own image on Photoshop and uploaded the exact layout that I wanted as a single image to resolve the issue. Anyway, I have reached a point where I am happy. I am also confident that I will be able to maintain and update this website as I continue to produce more work.

  • I kept the homepage greyscale to match my business cards and overall visual identity. I think it makes the page look professional and cohesive. My work is still there to view in colour on my portfolio page.
  • I changed the way I categorised my portfolio, I chose six headings which work for the body of imagery I have at the moment. The title of each section appears when the mouse hovers over the image. These titles will probably change as my work becomes more focussed as time goes on.
  • The categories are... Commissions and Personal Work, Pattern Design, Ink Work, Natural Forms, Printmaking, Public Art.
  • After you have clicked on a section, all the work in that category appears as a stream of images which can be scrolled through. I have added in brief descriptions, where appropriate, stating the context of the work.
  • My about section is kept quite brief. It says a bit about my work and inspirations and includes a photo of me.
  • I also kept my contact page simple with my email address as the main focus, and links to my other online platforms underneath.
  • There is also a link to my Instagram, Bechance and LinkedIn which appears in the sidebar on every page of my website.

I am glad I made another version earlier and asked for feedback on it because I feel the changes I have made have been a massive improvement. I am actually quite proud of how this has turned out. It probably took me longer than it should have done because I was adamant that I wanted it to look 'right'. I feel confident about directing people to this site as I feel it represents my practice and myself well.
